The Benefice of Cogenhoe and Great Houghton and Little Houghton with Brafield on the Green Home

Christmas

Church services across all churches in the Benefice are on the “services” page.

A Different Christmas

Contrary to what some would have us believe, Christmas has not been cancelled.  It may be a little different to what we are used to.  Obviously we cannot have the church packed for Christingle or Midnight Mass, nor can we have over seventy people gathering to sing carols on the green. We will have other activities available so please keep an eye on this page.

If you are worried about Christmas not having the usual commercial razzmatazz, remember that the first Christmas was a pretty simple one and still changed the world!

Advent Windows

Begins 1 December

Each night from 1 to 24 December a new window will be lit up to display something from the Christmas story or a winter scene.  Each window will remain lit every night from its first appearance for the rest of Advent.

CHRISTMAS BUBBLES REMINDER
As you may be aware groups of an unlimited number of people in up to 3 separate households from anywhere in the country are allowed to meet together in limited specified locations for the two weeks over Christmas.

The allowed locations include Churches. However, our churches are already set out and marked for single family bubbles and we are only required to ensure that people do not mix with others outside of their bubble. Whilst we are happy to welcome visitors from other parts of the country who may be visiting you for Christmas we will not be changing the seating arrangements to accommodate larger sized bubbles. The tier 2 procedure of being told where you may sit will remain in force.

Christmas Day Services

For members of the congregation who wish to receive Communion in church on Christmas Day, we will be providing a short said service of Communion on Christmas Morning at the usual Sunday times:
9:30 for Cogenhoe and Great Houghton
11:00 for Little Houghton and Brafield
